Discrimination at Workplace

Though in this particular period where people talk about equal rights of all the individuals without any discrimination but in the workplace employees usually get demotivated  when they come across in such a situation they feel that they are really discriminating. This can be in the process of hiring, compensation, promotion, job assignment, testimonials or in form of harassment at the work place. This discrimination is not limited up to a particular gender or race. The mindset of your supervisor defines the behavior against you as an employee. I have seen many examples when people are complaining that they have good track record of success but a new comer is promoted instead of the incumbent at the workplace.

No doubt in each and every county EEO (Equal Employment opportunity) Laws exist but companies usually bypass these laws and go for their personal wishes rather than making decision on the reality basis. In this way the employees who really deserves to get promoted or recruited remained behind feels dissatisfied and looses their morale.

The problem in case of Discrimination is that people usually don't know about their rights and if they really do they don't know how to raise their voices against that. secondly at the managerial level, they usually discriminate but they don't know that they are actually doing this, in technical terms this phenomenon is called Halo effect which is more disastrous when manager do it with out knowing the fact. Further i will post what are different types of discrimination and how to get rid from it.

  2. And it is the job of the HR Professionals to come up with a program that can address "workplace Descrimination". With my previous experience, we managed to conduct "building organizational Cultures" for us to be able to come up with common shared values. and tru this, we based our ploicies and programs on the company vision, mission and shared values. We always emphasize with our employee that the organization does not consired you as Pilipino, Malaysian, Indonesian, Sri Lankan... but "employee" of the organization and you are part of the family...

I always adviced my HR Staffs that when they are dealing with the employee, they must apply the "family" approach.
